The Charro

The Charro.

Traditional Mexican cowboy costume.

The vaquero is generally the mounted cattle herder of Spain and many of its (former) Latin American colonies where he performs for example as Huaso (Chile), Gaucho (Argentina, Uruguay), Vaqueiro (Brazil) or Charro (Mexico) etc.

The traditional costume of the charro, or Mexican cowboy, consists of a short jacket and tight trousers, which are ornamented with heavy gold or silver embroidery. The huge felt sombrero is banded and laced with gold or silver braid.
