Early Cretan Libation Vessel.

Remarkable relic from the city of Minos, The Minotaur.

Early Cretan libation vessel, found at Crete, New Palace Knossos. Late Minoan, 16th century B.C. Discovered by Sir Arthur Evans 1933-1934. The bulls head was made from serpentinite. It has been reconstructed with inlays of shell, rock crystal, and jasper in the muzzle and eyes.  It dates from c1350 BC, when Knossos was ruled by the Mycenaeans.
