Charles II, called the Bald (Frankfurt am Main, 13 June 823 – Brides-les-Bains, 6 October 877), was King of the West Franks (840-877), King of Aquitaine, nominal from 838, but effective between 852 and 855, King of Lotharingia (869-877), Emperor of the Carolingian Empire (875-877), King of Italy and King of Provence (875-877).

He was the fourth son of the Western Emperor (814-840) Ludwig I the Pious and his second wife Judith of the Welf (Guelph), daughter of Guelph I of Bavaria (?-820), Count of Altdorf and Hedwig of Bavaria, a member of the Old Guelph dynasty.
