Požarevac (Serbian Пожаревац), translated “Fire City”, is located in the central Serbian district of Braničevo, 80 km south of Belgrade. The local climate is harsh in winter. A very cold wind, called the Košava, blows from the northeast, making it almost impossible to stay outside for long periods of time, even if the thermometer shows only a few degrees below freezing. Summer, on the other hand, is usually very hot, with constant temperatures above thirty degrees.

Požarevac is mentioned for the first time in 1476 and later becomes known through the Peace of Passarowitz, signed in Požarevac in 1718 between Austria and the Ottoman Empire.
