Pius VI (bourgeois Giovanni Angelo Count Braschi; born 1717 in Cesena, died 29th August 1799 in Valence) was a pope from 1775 to 1799; he was a priest from 1758 and a cardinal from 1773. At the age of 24, his pontificate is one of the longest in church history.

In a conclave that lasted for almost five months, the church lawyer Cardinal Count Braschi was elected to succeed Pope Clement XIV on 15 February 1775.
