A Provencal Farandole Dancer
The farandole, from Provençal farandoulo, is a historical Provençal folk dance in fast 6/8 time, in which an open round dance, led by a dancer, dances various figures.
The musical accompaniment is provided by a player with a one-handed flute and tambourine, behind whom the dancers parade through the streets. The dancers dance in a chain of couples who hold hands or are connected by scarves. They move in spirals and twists.
